Lee Walsh

Darwen born Lee is the talent behind ‘Form Follows Construction’.

Lee designs products informed by the overlapping language of sculpture, most notably Abstract, Constructivist and Minimalism but also references Bauhaus design principles and industrial processes. Using a colour palette to reflect De Stijl, this range is produced by British furniture manufacturer Naughtone and his work features in many national and international interior projects, including the Amazon Offices in Prague and the O2 London.

We are really pleased to have two of Lee's designs currently on show. These are the satisfyingly weighty '9-Gon (The Dance)' circular bowl and two sizes of 'Plinth' candle holders.

9-Gon (The Dance) A perfect example of Lee's 'Form Follows Construction' principle – "I imagined a way to create a circular bowl from a single piece of sheet steel; a nine sided shape emits three primary petals, which in turn support another two petals to their left and right." A combination of folds turns the flat net into a three-dimensional form which embraces its contents.     Material: Powder coated steel Dimensions: 226mm x 226mm x 58mm £34

Plinth "Plinth was an indirect response to reading Super Normal by Naoto Fukasawa & Jasper Morrison. I felt that the tealight candle fell perfectly into this category of modest, anonymous objects that blend into our lives whilst quietly and expertly performing their intended function. It struck me that most tealight holders typically conceal the candle itself, but I wanted to design an object that would place it centre stage. Plinth seeks to elevate and display this unassuming design classic and present it to the viewer as if it were a sculpture displayed in an art gallery."     Material: Powder coated steel Dimensions: Small - 80mm x 80mm x 65mm / Large - 80mm x 80mm x 160mm £17.00 / £22.00
